At 120 x 60 cm, the Small Japandi Desk is sized for the corner of a bedroom, a landing or a spare room pressed into service as a study, where a full-width desk would dominate. It is built from solid and veneer ash wood, a pale, straight-grained timber that reflects light instead of absorbing it, so the piece keeps a small room feeling open. Two drawers run beneath the top and take the clutter that usually colonises a working surface, leaving the ash top clear for the work itself.

Ash is chosen here for reasons beyond colour. It is a dense hardwood with a long, even grain that resists denting under daily use, which is why it has historically been turned into tool handles and sports equipment.
