Embrace Balanced Proportions in Natural Ash

This round ash veneer table is sized for four: a 120 cm diameter gives each place setting real elbow room while keeping the far edge within reach. Ash is prized for its long straight figure and pale honey tone, and the natural finish leaves that colour open rather than sealing it beneath a tint. Below the top, the legs are turned to different diameters, a contemporary detail that stops the base looking mechanical and gives the piece a hand-drawn quality when seen from across the room. Nothing about the profile shouts, which is precisely the point.

The panels are E0 manufactured wood, a classification that caps formaldehyde emissions at the strictest commercial level, so the table adds very little to the air of a closed dining room. Engineered cores also move less than solid boards through a British winter of dry central heating followed by a damp spring, which is what keeps a large circle flat. The design is an exclusive Kave Home creation, and because the veneer is sliced from real timber, every top carries its own tones and grain and cannot be duplicated.

Setting the Table Around a Circle

A circle is the most forgiving shape for hosting, because there is no head of the table and every guest sits an equal distance from the next. Serving dishes sit naturally in the middle where everyone can reach them, which removes the passing that a long rectangle demands. Choose dining chairs with rounded backs to echo the outline, and hold the palette to one or two timbers so the ash veneer stays the brightest element in view.

Upkeep is undramatic: dust with a dry microfibre cloth, lift spills before they settle, and avoid soaking the veneer edge where the panel meets its trim. Daylight will slowly warm the colour of natural ash, so shift a bowl or turn the table occasionally if you want the tone to age evenly across the surface. Coasters and trivets do most of the protective work in daily use.
