Weathering, Patina and Everyday Care
Left outside, untreated teak greys gradually to a soft silver as the surface fibres oxidise. This is cosmetic rather than structural: the wood beneath is unchanged, and the teak frame continues to perform. If you prefer the original warm brown, an occasional application of teak oil will hold it, though it commits you to repeating the job. Indoors, away from ultraviolet light, the colour stays much closer to how the chair arrived.
The handwoven cord seat needs even less attention. Brush or hoover dust from between the strands with a soft attachment, rinse off salt or grit with clean water if the chair has been near the coast, and let it dry fully before use. Avoid pressure washers, which will loosen the weave. Stored under cover through the wettest months, this indoor outdoor armchair will look after itself for years, which is rather the point of building a chair out of teak in the first place.
