Two Orientations From a Single Piece
A D-shaped ring hanger comes fitted to the back, so the only decision left is the fixing: an anchor in plasterboard, a plug in masonry, a hook in a timber stud. Because the geometry is abstract, the artwork can be hung vertically or horizontally and each way gives a different room. Vertical suits a narrow chimney breast or the wall beside a door; horizontal spreads the relief above a bed or a long sideboard and lowers the visual centre of a tall room.
Light placement is the real skill with a monochrome relief. A lamp or picture light set to one side and slightly above will rake across the geometric shapes and deepen every shadow, whilst light thrown straight at it flattens the piece completely. For upkeep, brush the linen gently with a dry soft brush and keep water away, since damp marks linen permanently. Set against natural materials such as oak, rattan and stone, the white surface stays the brightest point in the room.
